Kidney Disease

Bringing together primary, secondary and public health researchers to develop evidence-based strategies for identifying and preventing progression of kidney disease.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a UK public health emergency and evidence-based strategies are required to identify people with, or at risk of, CKD, inform them of the diagnosis and support them to live well with their kidney disease. This includes strategies to improve equity in delivery of evidence-based pharmacological care. The majority of people with CKD (80-90%) are looked after in primary care, and we also have a role in education about acute kidney injury (AKI) and its prevention.

We have established a SAPC kidney disease SIG to bring together academic primary care professionals to work in collaboration with secondary, community, pharmacy and other academics, clinicians, patients and the public. Through collaboration with the UK Kidney Association SIG and other bodies, we aim to work collaboratively on programmes of work which support better evidence-based care for people with, or at risk of, kidney disease - across the UK.
