Conference programme and themes

The Scientific Committee is particularly keen to receive abstracts outlining research, education and policy which speak to our conference theme: Primary Care: Arriving? Or Departing?  The World Health Organization presented a new declaration for primary health care in Astana, Khazjastan in October 2018. In the selection of abstracts, preference will be given to those which explore the broad scope of primary care in the context of this renewed vision, which places primary care and essential public health functions at the core of integrated health service delivery as supported by a multisectoral approach and public engagement. We will consider abstract submissions that span the full breadth of primary care, including the social determinants of health and public health, and the different levels of health and social care. We will welcome contributions which focus on methodological challenges and developments that support this expanded scope. We also want to showcase the academic work of our international primary care colleagues to facilitate understanding the various approaches in which Primary Care is responding to current health and health care challenges.

We hope that you will come and join us in July 2019 to enjoy the conference and the social events.  You may wish to stay on and enjoy the Devon coast and countryside.

Programme features this year

  • Lightning talks – a fast paced format of 5 minute talks consisting of 20 slides automatically progressing every 15 seconds. These will be run in a dedicated session as an experiment this year.  Read more
  • Poster pitches - top scoring poster presenters will be offered a 3 minute slot to either encourage people to come to their poster or to give a potted summary of their work. The pitches will sit in the same sessions as standard oral presentations on the same topic.
  • Return of symposia and creative enquiry - following last year’s successes both these formats will return, with creative enquiry having its own dedicated session (depending on submissions)

The annual conference showcases the latest research and education in academic primary care from the UK and around the world in keynote presentations, parallel sessions of verbal presentations, posters, workshops and symposia. The programme will also feature the above mentioned lightning presentations, poster pitches, a creative arts stream and "The Solution Room" - an early careers workshop.
